Why is it so important to aerate a lawn?
The simplest answer is it lets the rain from the sky, which is full of lovely nutrients, flow down to the grassroots, which helps them grow grass.
The second reason to aerate your lawn is it allows the roots to breathe, and that's good for growing.
The third reason to aerate your lawn is it de-compacts the soil, which can help with drainage, and improves the hydrology (the flow of water) of your garden.
